For NYS Small Businesses with 100 or fewer employees with certain types of Commercial Lines Property/Casualty Insurance Policies that can demonstrate financial hardship caused by COVID-19.
- If you can demonstrate financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, your grace period will be extended to 60 days for a property/casualty policy and 90 days for a life insurance policy or annuity contract
- If you do not make a timely premium payment and can demonstrate financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, your insurer may not impose any late fees or report you to a credit reporting agency or debt collection agency regarding such premium payment.
- You may pay the overdue premium over a 12 month period if you did not make a timely premium payment due to financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and can still demonstrate financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
You may prove hardship by submitting a written attestation to the insurance company regarding your financial hardship resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. You can check for updates and get more information by visiting the New York State Department of Financial Services website at https://www.dfs.ny.gov/consumers/coronavirus or the website of your specific insurance company.
